Expert Appraiser: Trusts, Divorce, Property Tax

February 19th, 2011 9:03 AM

In working on property tax appeals, for clients in Ventura County & Los Angeles County, I have gained valuable insight into the process. I will try to share the most important items in this and following posts.

1. Visit the Assesor websites, print out everything you can, & study it.

Los Angeles County Assessor:LA County Assessor

Ventura County Assessor: Ventura County Assessor

There is a lot of material there, and it can be confusing. Call us if you need help.

2. Be sure you know what the date of assessment, or valuation is. It is typically January 1st of the year. But I have seen many homeowners walk in to the hearing, & have all their comparables thrown out, as they were for the wrong year, or too recent.

I have many more ideas, but will include them at the next posting.
